The Stranger In Me is written by Neeta Shah and Aditi Medirata, published by Om Books International. It is a fiction centered around the Bollywood dream.

Amit is dead, Amit is alive. Amit is the superstar. Amit is a failed actor. Are there many men or just one man living different lives at different times? After 40 years, Amit wants to hark back to his youth and become a Bollywood hero. But Bombay is now Mumbai and he is no longer 20. Does Amit have it in him to be the hero of his own story? Rocky, his flatmate, a struggling writer by day and bouncer by night, steps in as messiah of sorts, along with Disha,  the daughter of a renowned movie producer, who is madly in love with Rocky and believes all is fair in love and Sasha, Amit’s best friend, a hippie stuck in the ‘70s.

Chandni, the Bollywood siren of the ‘70s, is still the reigning queen of Amit’s heart. With Amit back in the same city, will there be a reunion of two lost souls from another time? Will Amit achieve his Bollywood dream? Will Rocky pen a blockbuster? Will Disha win her love?

The Stranger In Me, by Neeta Shah, best selling author of Bollywood Striptease, and Aditi Mediratta, associate writer of films Once Upon A Time In Mumbai and The Daily Picture, is an extraordinary tale of ordinary dreams, unfulfilled wishes, unrequited love and, above all, Bollywood.

Introduction

I honestly love the book because of the “never giving up spirit” of the protagonist. He firmly believes that age is just a number and it is a fantastic way to live life. The book is entertaining, one time read. It explores the bond between the four strangers and works on the spirit of Mumbai.

Mumbai is a city of lost hope and dreams, this city is definitely addictive. One can hate it or love it but cannot ignore it. The story also explores the father-daughter relationship. It is sad to see how one tragedy can completely break the family. While reading I had a feeling, few of the incidents were borrowed from superstar Amitabh Bachan’s life. And yes we also get to see Big Boss as a part of the story.

The story is definitely a bumpy ride and my favorite character was Disha. Her character is beautifully sketched and brings out a myriad human emotions.

Plot

The plot is around a 60-year-old person, who wants to become an actor, in his youth he came to Mumbai to struggle. He got his debut film but it failed miserably on the box office. Adding insult to the injury, his girlfriend Chandni decided to move on. Seeing no other option, he leaves for his hometown with a broken heart and joins a regular job. But his love for Bollywood was so strong that after retirement he returns to Mumbai to try out his luck. He meets a struggling writer Rocky, who offers him a place to stay, he also bumps into Disha, who is a daughter of a successful movie producer. Destiny unites him with his long lost friend Sasha, who turned out to be Rocky’s landlord. All four of them embark on a journey, which will change their relationship equation and destiny.
