The Jasmine Bloom is written by Rajat Narula, and published by Srishti Publishers & Distributors.

I loved the book from the beginning, it is simple, realistic and hard-hitting. The best thing I liked about the writing, the author never justified any of his character’s actions.  Generally, the authors, tend to go on offense or gets defensive while narrating a story. Rajat very well highlighted the fact, that at times no one is a villain other than circumstances. Nowhere the book turned preachy, though the plot indicated clearly, that one cannot escape the clutches of Karma.

The story is not only contemporary but also is a reflection of today’s life or culture. Extramarital affairs are the grim reality, which cannot be ignored. Two people, when they are young and in love, promise to stay together and be around for each other. But as time passes, the distance grows between them. The problem with the majority is that we are escapists, instead of confronting the problem, we find it easier to put the blame. Also, I don’t understand one thing, we are ready to put so much time and effort in building our career, then why are we not ready to invest the same time and effort in building our family?

The story revolves around Sameer Chadha, who is facing the mid-life crisis, he hates everything around him. He wants to rise in career but is pulled down by politics and scheming colleagues. He cannot relate to his wife.  He meets  Ritu, his office colleague, who is into abusive marriage and has an autistic son. One afternoon, their paths collide and they end up together. This single afternoon, lead to many more afternoons and events, which put their lives out of control.

The best thing about the story is, that you cannot blame any single character. All the characters have shades of grey and no one is wearing that holy cloak, which at times become quiet chocking.

I give this book a thumbs up, you just need to pick this novel and will not be able to keep it down.
