2019 came with promises and by the time the year closed, no one knew that the world was entering into dangerous waters. By 2020 the effect of pandemic started appearing, Europe was the first continent to hit badly and the mayhem that followed was like an unending nightmare. The sectors that got the worst hit were the hospitality and aviation industry. Towards the end of the year, the tide slowly started turning towards normalcy. Across the globe, domestic travel started picking up but with proper caution and advisory in place. The tough times taught many things to the world, the concept which was previously considered luxury like work from home, staycations became the new normal.
In order to break the monotony of routine life and for a change of place, I opted for a small staycation at The Metropolitan Hotel & Spa’s New Delhi. Needless to say, I was impressed by the level of diligence, implemented by them, where the guest safety was concerned.
The hotel vigilantly monitored the situation and implemented the precautionary hygiene measures, based on the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare’s advisory and guidelines for prevention and transmission.
The proper thermal screening was done at entry gates, and only once the AarogyaSetu app display ‘safe’ status, then only staff and guests are allowed to enter. It was mandatory to wear masks, as the hotel is centrally located, with a lot of guest movement, thus safety cannot be taken lightly. Frequent sanitization of kitchen, restaurants, and common areas were being done at regular intervals. In the lobby where most of the people gathered the 6-feet apart rule was followed.

The hotel witnessed a lot of footfall, thus the high touch surfaces were at the risk of contamination, to address the issue they regularly disinfected the surfaces. The check-in and check-out were made contactless, same went with payment. After the guest had checked out the rooms were sanitized thoroughly and kept on hold for 24 hours before released to the new guest.
The staff was well trained to handle the situation and also any crisis situation if it erupts. Covid also spread in closed spaces, where faulty ventilation and air conditioning can make matter worse within no time. The hotel regularly monitored the air-conditioning filters, and the proper functioning of ventilation, air exchange, and dehumidification equipment, as well as proper replacement rate of indoor air, was maintained.
These many precautions put me at ease, and apart from their personalized service, eyes to detailing made my staycation memorable and worry less.

When things opened up a bit at home in Toronto, we definitely were interested in staycation options. We always looked for the same things you did to ensure we felt safe. It was great that you found that the Metropolitan Hotel provided a stay that was memorable and less worrisome.

No lodging facility can survive the Covid times without extreme measures for safety. We have been to four so far.
