Yodha- The Dynasty of Samudragupta unfolds the murky loves and lies of the most illustrious clans in history.

Introduction: We all have read about Gupta dynasty in our history classes. Historians rarely mention, the graves, on which these glorious empires are built.  Fiction historical writers, not only try to present the history in an easier way, but also dare to look behind the closet and get those dirty secrets out. Rajat has done an excellent job with the book. The plot is engaging and takes you to a different era. The way he has written about the palaces, cities, roads of Gupta era, the reader feels that he is a part of that bygone era. One thing that struck me, basic human emotions are same. We have made advancement in technology, life sciences and what not, but the greed, fear, love, hatred felt by humans in AD379, is similar to what we humans face today. Rajat has completely justified the plot, while reading the book, I can easily imagine the motive behind each character’s action.

Plot: Samudragupta was a much-loved king, he was unconquerable, just and loved by masses. But there were other kingdoms, who were not much fond of him and wanted to eliminate him at all costs. As if this was not sufficient, his extended family also wanted to see him dead. He was so terrified about the safety of his children, that he send both the prince at hidden locations, to be brought up in the natural environment.  But then God has other plans, the day he introduced his elder son Ramagupta to the public, misfortune fall on the caretaker of his younger son Chandragupta. The caretaker revealed the true identity to the young prince. Young Chandragupta had certain questions, which none other then his father great King Samudragupta can answer.  The young prince wasn’t aware that he is not entering the palace, but he is entering a web of deceit, lies, hidden truth and jealousy. The young prince had to wage a battle not only for his identity but also for his sanity. The twists and turns in the plot are amazing, honestly, I would not like to reveal them in my review.
