The changing weather makes any type of hair really unruly and wild. A major problem during the winter season is dryness – both of the hair and scalp. And this dryness, combined with the number of hats, caps or beanies that we end up wearing leads to the dreaded problem of dandruff. One of the most common causes of dandruff is dryness of the scalp. But sometimes, using ordinary oils on the scalp can aggravate the problem instead of curing it. This is why a medicated oil is important to treat dandruff.

I recently tried out Iraya Anti Dandruff Hair Oil and am delighted with the results. Iraya ayurvedic hair oil has a range of cold pressed oils, wherein the nutrients of the oil are retained because of the method of extraction. Sourcing its raw ingredients from places far and wide and creating conditioning hair, hair care formulae through their vegetarian, completely natural and perfume-free products, this brand’s magical hair oils are a testament that ancient Ayurvedic recipes were way ahead of their time.

The Ingredients:

Coconut Oil (Cocos Nucifera), Neem Leaves (Azadiractha Indica), Amla, Hirda, Essential Oils of: Rosemary, Lime Oil, Frankincense.

Neem promotes hair growth, helps with dandruff and itching and keeps your scalp healthy. Amla known to be effective for hair loss treatment, it strengthens roots thereby preventing shedding and promoting strong and healthy hair growth. Hirda is good for promoting hair growth, controlling hair loss, treating dandruff problems, preventing grey hair and maintaining the natural color of your hair.

The Price:

Rs 200 for 100ml

How to Use:

Massage gently with fingertips into the scalp and leave in for at least an hour or overnight. Apart from clearing the scalp, the oil also relaxes the mind.

The Review:

I have been using this oil twice a week for a month, but I don’t leave it on overnight – yes, that ways I am a little finicky about stained pillows et al. So what I do is I warm it slightly and apply it onto my scalp. I leave it on for at least three hours.

I started noticing a difference after the third use. Not that I had too much dandruff, but the dry winter winds and may be frequent washing (every alternate day) had left my scalp really itchy.

After two weeks – approximately six applications, I noticed I had less hair fall – even during shampooing, my scalp was definitely calmer and not itchy at all. Not just that, my hair felt softer and shinier – so the oil was also conditioning my hair. The best bit is that this oil is completely devoid of sulfates, parabens, SLSes, paraffin or mineral oils!

Obviously, the secret of this oil’s awesome performance is in its ingredients. Neem’s antibacterial, antifungal and regenerative properties help clear dandruff and other scalp regularities.  It is also said to balance vata & pitta. Amla, the richest source of vitamin C, also contains an array of antioxidants and phytonutrients. Its immense healing properties strengthen hair follicles, increase scalp circulation and stimulate healthy new growth. Hirda & Behada, the other important constituents of Triphala, is known to prevent inflammatory scalp conditions and treat hair loss.

One word of caution – it does have a strong fragrance – but I guess it is a small price to pay for completely getting rid of dandruff.

Buy it, and you can thank me later!
