Hi Friends! How are your summer holidays going? Now that there are just a few days or maybe just a week or two before summer vacations get over, I am sure you have come back from your holidays, finished holiday homework and are getting bored. I was in the same state a week ago. So my mom devised a one-movie-a-day plan in which she made me watch films which may or may not be recent, but they were thoroughly enjoyable. I am listing five out of the ten films I saw for you to watch…

  1. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang :

In this movie, Charactus Potts an inventor invents (or makes out of scrap) the car (Chitty Chitty Bang Bang) which can fly and float. One day, they were sailing in Chitty when they were caught in  the sight of the evil king of Vulgaria. He wanted that car. He made many attempts to get Chitty but failed. Then he got hold of Charactus Potts’s father but he thought that it was Charactus Potts himself. While they were taking him to Vulgaria, Charactus Potts sees his father being taken away. He tried to rescue him but he was too late. Charactus thought to go to Vulgaria and bring him back. So Charactus Potts, Jeremy, Jermimy and Truly Scrumptious went to Vulgaria and fought against the king and brought Charactus Potts’s father. It is a very funny movie.

  1. Jumanji(1995): In this movie, 12-year-old Alan Parrish, who becomes trapped in a board game (Jumanji) while playing with his best friend Sarah Whittle in 1969. Twenty-six years later, in 1995, siblings Judy and Peter Shepherd find the game, begin playing and then unwittingly release the now-adult Alan. After tracking down Sarah, the quartet resolves to finish the game in order to reverse all of the destruction it has caused. In the starting, it was a bit scary but some scenes are quite funny.
  2. Miss Peregrine’s home for peculiar children: In this movie Jake, a teenager starts having nightmares of the stories his grandfather (Abe) told him about peculiars. Jake’s parents sign him up for psychiatrist check-ups, and following advice from his psychiatrist, Dr. Golan, and the lead of a letter from Miss Peregrine to Abe, Jake travels to Cairnholm with his father to investigate the children’s home, whereupon he learns that it was destroyed during a Luftwaffe raid. However, upon visiting the ruined house, he finds the children there alive and well. They take him through a portal in a cave and he emerges in the year 1943 when the house was still intact. Miss Peregrine greets him and explains that she belongs to a class of female Peculiars called “Ymbrynes” who can shapeshift into birds (in Miss Peregrine’s case, a peregrine falcon) and manipulate time. To avoid persecution, she and the children hide from the outside world in a time loop she created, accessible only to Peculiars and set to September 3, 1943. This time loop allows them to live the same day repeatedly and avoid ageing as long as they stay inside of it. It is not a horror movie but still scary. My advice not to watch it late at night.

  1. Jurassic world – Parts 1 & 2: These two movies, the most recent in the Jurassic theme series are my favourites. In the first part, brothers Zach and Gray Mitchell visit Isla Nublar, the site of the original Jurassic Park, where a new theme park named Jurassic World has operated for years. A new genetically engineered dinosaur has been created to attract visitors. The two boys meet their aunt, Claire Dearing, the park’s operations manager. Owen Grady, a United States Navy veteran, has been researching the intelligence of the park’s four Velociraptors.  While exploring the park in a gyrosphere ride, Zach and Gray enter a restricted area. The Indominus arrives and destroys their sphere, but the boys manage to evade it and find the ruins of the original Jurassic Park visitor centre. They repair an old 1992 Jeep Wrangler Sahara and drive back to the park resort. Claire and Owen search for the boys but encounter the Indominus and barely escape. Masrani and two troopers hunt the Indominus by helicopter, but the Indominus breaks into the park’s aviary to escape the gunfire, releasing a flock of Pteranodon and Dimorphodon that collide with the helicopter, causing it to crash. The pterosaurs then attack the resort itself. Gray and Zach eventually find Owen and Claire at the resort as armed personnel subdue the pterosaurs with tranquillizers. Assuming command, Hoskins, an evil army guy wants to use the dinosaurs as ‘army’ and orders that the Raptors should be used to track the Indominus…I am not going to tell you anything more apart from the fact that Blue, one of the raptors trained by Owen survives. This is the common thread to the next film – Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom – that I went and saw in a movie hall… In this movie, Jurassic World theme park on Isla Nublar has been abandoned. A mercenary team arrives on the island to retrieve DNA from the remains of Indominus Rex, which lies at the bottom of the Mosasaurus lagoon. After sending a piece of bone to the surface, the team is attacked by the Mosasaurus and Tyrannosaurus rex. As the team barely escapes, the lagoon gate is left open, allowing the Mosasaurus to escape into the ocean. Mathematician Dr. Ian Malcolm says that the dinosaurs should be left to die as he believes that nature is correcting the mistake that John Hammond made by cloning the dinosaurs long ago. Meanwhile, Jurassic World’s former operations manager, Claire Dearing, has created the Dinosaur Protection Group to save the dinosaurs. After the Senate rejects the rescue of the dinosaurs, Claire is contacted by Benjamin Lockwood, Hammond’s former partner in creating dinosaur-cloning technology. Claire meets Lockwood at his estate in Northern California. Lockwood and his aide, Eli Mills, are planning to move the dinosaurs to a new island sanctuary, where they will live without human interference. Mills is concerned that locating Blue, the last living Velociraptor, will be difficult, so Claire recruits Owen Grady, Jurassic World’s former Velociraptor trainer, to join the mission.

Claire and former park technician, Franklin Webb, reactivate the park’s dinosaur trackers in the command bunker, while Owen, Ken, paleoveterinarian Zia Rodriguez, and the mercenaries search for Blue. Upon finding Blue, the mercenaries shoot her and tranquilize Owen, while Zia tries her best to keep Blue alive. After barely surviving a Baryonyx attack, Claire and Franklin reunite with Owen as the volcano erupts. Claire and Franklin use an abandoned gyrosphere to flee, but it plummets off a cliff, and into the ocean. Owen rescues them from the sinking gyrosphere, and they sneak aboard the mercenaries’ ship, where they reunite with Zia. The ship, filled with captured dinosaurs, departs for the mainland, while Isla Nublar is destroyed by the volcanic eruption. At Lockwood’s estate, Maisie, Lockwood’s apparent granddaughter, learns that Mills is secretly working with auctioneer Gunnar Eversol to sell the captured dinosaurs, as well as the Indoraptor, a new genetically engineered dinosaur created by geneticist Dr. Henry Wu using the DNA of the Indominus rex and a Velociraptor. Wu plans to retrieve DNA from the Indominus Rex bone and Blue to create improved versions of the Indoraptor. Lockwood, informed by Maisie, confronts Mills about the auction but is murdered by him.

Owen and Claire are discovered and locked in a cell at the estate, while Zia and Franklin evade capture. As the auction begins, Owen and Claire escape and find Maisie, who shows them the auction, as the Indoraptor is sold, despite Wu’s warning. Owen frees a Stygimoloch to disrupt the auction. Ken attempts to retrieve one of the Indoraptor’s teeth as a trophy, but it escapes, killing him and Eversol. As the Indoraptor hunts the group throughout the mansion, they are saved by Blue, who was freed by Zia after Wu tried to take her DNA. The Indoraptor falls through a glass roof in the ensuing fight and is impaled to death on a Triceratops skull on display.

The unsold dinosaurs are freed from their cages by Maisie because of a hydrogen cyanide leak, despite Owen’s warning. Mills attempts to escape with the Indominus Rex bone but is eaten by the Tyrannosaurus and a Carnotaurus. Owen and Claire leave with Maisie while Blue and the rest of the dinosaurs escape out into the world. I am sure this is the theme for the next movie to follow! I am looking forward to it.

  1. The Sound of Music

When the Sound of Music was released in 1965 it took the world by storm, earning five Oscars, including Best Picture. For millions of people, the film is an amazing combination of a powerful and moving story, great music, and breathtaking scenery of Salzburg! I was so happy to see the mountains and scenery that I have decided to add Salzburg to the list of places I want to travel to. The musical tells the story of Maria, who takes a job as governess to a large family while she decides whether to become a nun. She falls in love with the children and their widowed father, Captain von Trapp. He is ordered to accept a commission in the German navy, but he opposes the Nazis. He and Maria decide to flee from Austria with the children. The story is more or less true. The picture ends as the Von Trapp family walks across the Austrian Alps to freedom in Switzerland. They later, of course, came to the United States and became famous as a singing group.
