BLING ON THE COLORS

First things first. The range of colours in Maybelline‘s two new range may be limited – but most shades are multitaskers and may be worn with almost any coloured attire. Take for instance, Shade number 22 – Buried Treasure – from its Colour Show Collection. When I first saw it sitting prettily amongst the more conventional reds, corals blues doing the rounds, I straightaway knew I had to have it! It is a strange mix of mauve-grey with a gossamer golden sheen to it. From a distance it even looks like, for want of a better phrase, muddy brown.

But it is a rare combination of sophistication with a gothic allure. Buried Treasure is true to its name – how raw gold would look fresh out of a mine. It is not a loud holographic effect, but still mysterious enough. The best part – it looks good on every skin tone. These colours don’t chip or show washed-off edges for at least four days. One could make it last even longer by putting on a top coat.

The other range that will have you feeling all shimmery and red-carpet ready is Maybelline’s Glitter Mania Collection. Though I liked Dazzling Diva and Pink Champagne too, I picked up Shade Number 605 – Matinee Mauve for its bold look. In fact I liked it even better than the red one. Matinee Mauve is a blockbuster combo of mauve, lilac and silver glitter. Drying time, like most glitter nailpolishes, is average and two coats are ideal for better opacity. One word of caution though – do put a base coat before you apply the glitter nailpolishes or else they will be hard to take off.

Price: Rs 125 for 6ml Glitter Mania and Rs 75 for 6ml Color Show

Summary: I think I will give the collection an overall thumbs up. Not only do they glam up the nails and look really chic, these nail paints are so reasonably priced. That’s a winning combo.
